Moore Participates in the General Elections FW Mirror Candidates Forum

I had the opportunity to participate in the Federal Way Mirror’s General Election Candidates Forum, and I truly appreciated the chance to share my thoughts directly with our community. Forums like this matter — they create space for dialogue, accountability, and understanding. They remind us that public service is not just about policy; it’s about people.

We covered a wide range of topics that impact Federal Way today and will shape our city for years to come. One major theme was how we can strengthen our permitting process. Whether we’re talking about building housing, supporting small businesses, or encouraging economic development, our systems should be efficient, clear, and supportive — not barriers to progress. We can and must do better.

Public safety was also at the center of the conversation, and rightfully so. People deserve to feel safe in their homes, in our parks, and as they go about their daily lives. I believe in practical and compassionate solutions — supporting our police officers with tools, training, and staffing, while also investing in mental health, youth programs, and community-based support. Safety is strongest when it comes from trust.

Another deeply important topic we discussed was the well-being of our youth.
As someone who has served as a Guest Teacher in our schools, this issue has always been close to my heart. I’ve seen firsthand how much our kids benefit when they have safe, positive environments — and how vulnerable they can be when those options aren’t available.

We need to look at positive, proactive solutions that keep our kids engaged, especially during summer and winter breaks. Having free like the FW Community Center where young people can go, learn, socialize, feel safe, and simply be kids is vital. And we should be building partnerships — with local unions, after-school programs, cultural organizations, and youth-serving nonprofits — to ensure those opportunities are accessible and consistent. Investing in our youth is investing in the future of Federal Way.

We also spent time talking about the role of arts and culture in shaping our city. Arts are not a luxury — they are part of how we build identity, create belonging, and support youth expression. We must continue thinking creatively about partnerships with schools, artists, and cultural organizations to lift up the talent that already exists in our city.

I left the forum feeling energized. The community showed up. The questions were thoughtful. And the conversation was meaningful.

At the end of the day, local government is where we can make real, direct impact.
I’m grateful for everyone who continues to show up, ask questions, engage, and care.

Let’s keep building a Federal Way that reflects the dignity, creativity, and possibility of the people who call it home.
