Former Councilmember Martin Moore is running to return to the Federal Way City Council, focusing on public safety, homelessness, economic growth, and protecting essential services. Backed by broad regional support—including Rep. Kristine Reeves, local labor unions, and community leaders—Martin is ready to lead with experience, transparency, and heart.

FEDERAL WAY, WA - Former Councilmember Martin Moore declared today his bid to return to the Federal Way City Council, citing his deep community ties and commitment to protecting and advocating for families and seniors."

With a focus on public safety, homelessness, economic development, transparency, and protecting essential services, Moore hopes to once again serve the community he has called home for more than three decades.  Martin is announcing his intention to run for Position two, the seat currently held by appointed Councilmember.

"I'm excited to announce my campaign for Federal Way City Council once again," said Moore. "These are extraordinary times, and the challenges we face—from economic uncertainty to watching vital services being cut—call for leaders who truly understand who they represent and will protect all residents of Federal Way."

With today’s announcement, Moore is also publishing a list of more than two dozen endorsements from across the region and the political spectrum, including Representative Kristine Reeves, Federal Way Fire Fighters (IAFF 2024), Laborers 242, former Federal Way City Councilmembers Greg Baruso and Leandra Craft, and many more.

Moore previously served on the Federal Way City Council from 2013 to 2021, where he established a strong record of community service and advocacy. His personal story as an immigrant from Bulgaria who arrived in the United States at age of eight has shaped his approach to public service and his deep connection to the Federal Way community.

Over the course of his previous term, Moore achieved several significant accomplishments:

• Enhancing public safety: Moore voted to add more police officers to protect and serve the community, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring Federal Way remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
• Driving economic development: He helped bring new companies like DaVita into the community, creating jobs and strengthening the local economy by streamlining processes that help businesses secure permits quickly.
• Supporting vulnerable residents: During the pandemic, Moore worked to secure rental assistance for those struggling financially, ensuring that residents could remain in their homes during challenging times.
• Increasing government transparency: Moore implemented an interactive dashboard to provide budget transparency, making it easier for residents to see how their tax dollars were being spent.
• Ensuring fiscal responsibility: He advocated efforts to withdraw from the unnecessary SCORE Jail System, saving taxpayers $4 million while maintaining public safety.
• Creating a Sister City with Rivne, Ukraine: As an Eastern European, Martin recognized the importance of strengthening ties between Federal Way and Ukraine. With a significant Eastern European population in the city, he led efforts to establish a meaningful partnership with Rivne, Ukraine. His leadership helped lay the foundation for collaboration, cultural exchange, and a strong relationship between the two communities.

Since leaving office, Moore has continued his community involvement while raising his two children with his wife, Sarah. He currently serves as a Board Member for the Multi Service Center and for FUSION, two nonprofit organizations serving vulnerable populations in Federal Way.

"I believe we need compassionate, understanding advocates at City Hall who truly know the people they represent," Moore continued. "When I am elected, I promise to listen and work with residents to solve problems together. I will work to continue growing our police department, address homelessness in a holistic way, advocate for our youth and create a thriving economy that works for all, build a more open and transparent City Hall, and ensure that critical services are protected."

Moore's vision for Federal Way includes capitalizing on new opportunities presented by the Sound Transit light rail completion and the transformation of the downtown mall into a vibrant destination. He also pledges to continue fighting for parks and open spaces, building on his previous work to preserve Camp Kilworth.
