Investing in our youth isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s a smart, long-term strategy for a safer, stronger, and more inclusive Federal Way. When we give young people the tools to succeed, we strengthen the entire community.
As a Guest Teacher for Federal Way Public Schools and a proud alumnus of the Federal Way AmeriCorps team, I’ve had the privilege of working directly with students—guiding them, supporting them, and seeing their potential up close. These experiences have shaped my deep belief that supporting our youth must be a top priority.
That’s why I will fight to expand opportunities that engage, support, and empower young people at every stage of their development. I will work closely with the city to:
-
Secure additional funding for youth programs—from late-night teen events to after-school and weekend activities that keep kids off the streets and connected to their community.
-
Expand access to creative, cultural, and recreational outlets that encourage self-expression, build confidence, and foster lifelong passions.
-
Promote leadership development, and job readiness programs that help young people discover their potential and prepare for successful futures.
-
Grow youth programming through the Parks and Recreation Department—with more activities, classes, and events tailored to a wide range of age groups, interests, and cultures.
-
Develop more outdoor, youth-dedicated spaces—including the creation of a dedicated BMX trail and bike parkwhere youth can ride safely, build skills, and be part of a positive, active community. It’s time to invest in the kinds of outdoor spaces that reflect what young people are asking for—places that are engaging, accessible, and built with them in mind.
This isn’t just about preventing crime—it’s about opening doors. Every young person in Federal Way deserves access to opportunity, safety, and belonging. By prioritizing these efforts, we’re not only building a stronger foundation for our youth—we’re building a better future for all of us.
